Fall 2013

For me, sharing my law school journey story with more than 40 high school freshmen and sophomores helped remind me of just how far I have come since my own high school experience.

The Open the Doors to Justice program, created The Honorable Ana Espana, brought the Castle High School Students to the South Bay Court House Oct. 25 to explore careers in the legal field.

“We got the call to be a part of the mock trial program from Judge Espana in June,” Princlipal Tom Glover said.

Glover said they choose ninth and tenth graders because the high school’s mission is to prepare students for college, and getting younger students involved gives them a chance to see what career opportunities there are at the start of high school.

“I really wanted something for the kids in the South Bay,” Judge Espana said.  Espana herself is a product of the area and wants to give back to her community.

Along with Espana, students heard from Commissioner Terrie E. Roberts, District Attorneys, Public Defenders, and TJSL students Francisco Batar (3L), Veronica Carrillo (3L), Samantha Morales (3L) and Michelle Vescio Evenson (2L), as well as others.  The messages were clear: stay in school, respect yourself, go to college, and pay attention.

“I defend people who are much like you,” Public Defender Shontee Hobson (TJSL Alumni) said.  She shared stories about some of the young men and women she represents who she characterized as making bad decisions to drink or use drugs.  She stressed that these young people’s lives are forever changed for the worse.

The students presented a mock trial case involving a First Amendment issue.  “I have never done this before,” sophomore Alonzo Bowditch said.

Bowditch played the defendant, a store manager being sued for violating his employee’s right to assemble.  The most beneficial thing: “I learned about the legal system,” Bowditch said.

After the jury found in favor of the plaintiff, students were treated to a behind the scenes look.  District Attorney Victor Nunez took them to a holding tank, asked them to get inside, and summarily slammed the door.  Behind sophomore Kevin Zepeda was a toilet.  DA Nunez asked if anyone needed to use the bathroom.

“This is what happens to you if you get in trouble,” Nunez said.  “The nice clothes you are wearing are taken and you’re given a jump suit.  The good food you eat for lunch, now you get bologna.”

The students left the room clearly effected by the experience.

At lunch attorneys and students sat together talking, eating, and learning about each other.  As the program closed, all I could think of as I listened to everyone talking about careers in law was just how very far I have come from being a girl who didn’t know if she wanted to go to college at all.

Fall 2013

On October 17, The Jewish Student Union (JSU) joined forces with the Entertainment Law Society (ELS), the Business Law Society (BLS), the Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA), the Jefferson Law Republicans (JLR), and Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) to bring their members a unique networking opportunity: a night of “Bowling with Attorneys.” This inaugural event, held at East Village Tavern and Bowling, brought together students from diverse backgrounds for a night of fun, mixed with a bit of professionalism.

Among the 20 Attorneys who came out to support our students, were several TJSL alumni including: Eric Bernsen ’12, Josh Bonnici ’10, Jeremy Evans ’11, Camille Guerra ’04, Sabrina Green ‘02, Vanessa Pena ’12, Kristen Roberts ’10, Phil Shapiro ’85, Rebeca Valenzuela ’09, Erik Vieira ‘02. Also of note were: Patti Zlaket and Gayle Blatt from Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield, LLP, Danielle Dychter from Michael Sullivan & Associates LLP, Alex Dychter from Dychter Law Offices, APC, and Charles G. Bateh from CGB Sports Management, Inc.. Accomplished TJSL Professor K.J. Greene was in attendance showing his support for the organizations.

“This event was a great way to have members of all the participating organizations, and some of the best practicing attorneys from the community, come together and interact in a fun relaxed environment! It was an incredible evening with a fantastic turnout of about 80 participants, the JSU fully intends to make this an annual event,” said JSU President Rachel Baum(2L).

Decorated defense Attorney Phil Shapiro(’85) observed: "I'm not sure who had more fun or networking opportunities, the students or the attorneys! There were a lot of business cards passed around. The lawyers renewed old relationships and really enjoyed meeting and discussing practicing law with the students. For many of the attorneys, it was exciting to talk to students about issues of opening a practice. All of the lawyer participants want to be invited back and look forward to other such events."

“I wanted to give my members and participating attorneys an opportunity to network in a fun and untraditional way. I felt this event would be a great method to break the mold of traditional networking events and allow the attorneys and students to see the personality of the person, instead of the title of "student" and "attorney". The event did just that, and was a huge success.” Remarked Chanel Diblasi(2L) President of ELS.

“Students were able to socialize and network with attorneys representing many different fields of law, while also exposing themselves to different clubs like JSU, PAD, MELSA, BLS, ELS and JLR. JLR is just proud to have been associated with such a fun and productive event!” stated JLR Co-President Tim Bradford(2L).

Taly Haghighi(3L), President of MELSA, chose to involve their organization in the event “because our members got the opportunity to network, meet new friends, and have fun bowling! We are happy to have been a part of such a fun event!” BLS President, Jeremy Elias(3L), felt similarly commenting: “it was awesome to see so many organizations coming together to make the event possible.  Being able to socialize with students and attorneys in that kind of setting was really a great experience.”

All of the organizations want to give a huge thank you to Aaron Traux for shooting amazing photographs of the evening!

Game Notes

Week: CHAMPIONSHIPS

Game 1: 11AM; Conditions: Sunny with a cool breeze of maliciousness TJSL Stallions v. Malicious Tortfeasors Final Score: 20-21

For the start of the Championship weekend, we had last year’s reigning champs, TJSL Stallions, up against the newbie 1L’s, Malicious Tortfeasors. The game started off tense with both teams wearing eye-black and getting their hands dirty on the field with some amazing defense.  TJSL Stallions’ Mares were making friends all game long with the astroturf- who they are now besties with for about a week till the burns heal.

TJSL Stallions lost in the final seconds of the game to a beautiful hail mary pass.  The Malicious Tortfeasors gave many thanks to Clutch Clayton for catching the game winner!  Malicious Tortfeasors, sneaking into the playoffs, exclaimed “ Don’t underestimate the wild card!” Overall it was a very well-played game that the Malicious Tortfeasors thought was their only game of the day.  When they found out they had advanced to the next round, they commented “Sh^t, we didn’t know we would have to play another one!”

Game 2: 12PM; Conditions: #StinkyPinkies are no longer trending Professor Sacks v. #StinkyPinkies Final Score: 25-12 On the first drive of the game Professor Sacks came out with their weekly play of a deep bomb to the end zone to Anthony for the first touchdown of the game. The #StinkyPinkies never saw it coming and never caught up after that. The Professor Sacks girls showed up to play.  The girls, lead by Sara continued to snag flags right and left like only girls could do despite some blood and sweat to match.  Professor Sacks commented that there was a “lot of contact” happening on the field today with a ton of low shoulders to the chest and body.

The #StinkyPinkies were just going for gold and when asked to comment about how the game went, the team captain, coach and recently retired football player Tim Seeger, said “they really could have used me out there today.” The rest of the team jeered and laughed and told the media that they had a lot of heart and left it all out on the field for their last time ever of playing IM football for TJSL, until an alumni team can be formed.

They would also like to shout out to Breast Cancer month in the fact that they are the only team that fully supports it from Randy’s multiple pink items all the way to Matt Work’s baby showing up in some pink gear. Way to go guys!

Game 3: 1pm; Conditions: “No pads, no helmets, just Balls!” -MT

Malicious Tortfeasors v. Distant Relatives

Final Score: 18-27

The start of the semi-final games began with a burst of energy from the fresh and rested Distant Relatives.  The Distant Relatives who came in ranked #1 for the playoffs had a very loud and exciting huddle chant with Aneesh leading the cheer from the middle.  Each team had great plays throughout and both teams had key interceptions in the final minutes of the game to keep the fans excited.  In the last two minutes, Ish intercepted a ball with 1:19 left in the game and then the Malicious Tortfeasors answered back with an interception with 1:02 left to play. In the end, the Malicious Tortfeasors were a little tired from their all- out performance in the first game and commented that this was “only warm up for next year!"  The Distant Relatives maintained their close knit style of play and summed it up that “We are not a team, we are a family!”

Distant Relatives came out victorious and looked like the team to beat as they moved on to the Championship game.

Game 4: 2pm; Conditions: The Last Cal West Team Professor Sacks v. The HUGE Winners Final Score: 18-21

Professor Sacks came out hard with some deep throws to the end-zone with Anthony throwing almost the whole field for a Touchdown! They also came up with a clutch interception in the end-zone to keep things hot on the scoreboard. The HUGE Winners came out real hard as the #2 seed in the playoffs received a bye to come into the game fresh and ready to play. They commented that this was the “hardest game all season” and that there was a ton of “teamsmanship from both teams” … yes teamsmanship. They also challenged the Distant Relatives that this was a game that proved who has the best girls in the league! Professor Sacks commented after the game that “they lost, and a bye is very important in game strategy and endurance….” Game 5: 3pm; Conditions: CHAMPIONSHIP TIME The HUGE Winners v. Distant Relatives Final Score: 7-32 The HUGE Winners just could not handle the heat from the Distant Relatives as they had to play back to back games.  Despite the low score, The HUGE Winners put up a great fight with mighty performances by their players.  The going got tough a few times with some intersquad squabbles but the team continued to charge.  They declined to comment after the game.

The Distant Relatives came out with a passion and intensity that lit up the field. Ranging from multiple girl play maneuvers to a lot of players crashing into the boards, they kept the game intense.

Distant Relatives now owns the championship to maintain that their girls are the best in the league.  Kaaveh would like to personally shout out to Danny Saleh that he missed him in the finals.

Great job to everyone who came out this season but it is time to put the cleats and tears away until next season rolls around and you all remember why you came out in the first place: to play some good quality fooseball.  THIS IS....IM FOOTBALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

Fall 2013

It’s 2013, the Supreme Court just killed DOMA, and Prop 8.  Talking about coming out should not be that big of a deal.  But it has only been fifteen years since a young college man was murdered in Laramie, Wyoming in one of the most violent hate crime attacks in modern history.

So with National Coming out day being Oct. 10, I decided it might be good for me to come out to all of you.  The first time I came out I was 21.  I was a sophomore in college and it was right after some of the most visible deaths from AIDS happened.

Let me be clear, I am not lesbian, my mom is, but coming out as the daughter of a lesbian was one of the most pivotal moments of my life.  I learned so much about myself as well as the LGBT community.  So I thought it might be good to share what I learned with you.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender are the words LGBT stand for.  Sometimes you will see a Q at the end, which is for Queer.  The LGBT community is made up of all these people plus all of their Straight Allies.  I am considered a straight ally. “Coming out” is the phrase used to indicate that a LGBT person tells someone they are gay. Or in the case of LGBT family members, this phrase is used to refer to the process of coming to terms with your loved one telling you that they are gay.

One goal of National Coming out day is to put the focus on the LGBT community. Some people celebrate who they are, because they have been out for some time.  For others it’s a chance to let the people in their lives know a little bit more about them by coming out.  And for Allies it’s a chance to let everyone know you support the LGBT community.

It’s been a long time since I found out my mom was a lesbian.  I have come to realize that our experience was not unique.  It was also not ideal.  I have learned so much about how to be an Ally.

Number One: Do not pull someone out of the closet.  If you overhear, or just think someone is gay, it is not ok for you to say, “Hey, I know you’re gay.” Even if the next phrase is, “and I think that is cool.”  Coming out is a very personal thing.  Remember as an Ally, your LGBT friend is not waiting for the day you tell her or him you are straight.  Sexuality is intimate; treat it that way.

Your LGBT friends will share what they want when they want.  I have decided that there is a nice compliment that comes from my LGBT friends not saying anything spectacular to me about their orientation.  For example, I have met a couple women here at TJSL who just talk to me about their wives or girlfriends.  There is no sitting down, holding hands, where they explained to me they were lesbians.  It made me feel like their equal, like their friend.

Number Two: Try to be as supportive as you can when someone you know comes out to you.  If you feel taken aback by someone coming out to you, try not to put that on him or her.  Be as supportive as you can when you are with that person, and then go home and work it out on your own.  Our world favors straight people, so if you want to be a good straight ally don’t make your LGBT friends feel like coming out to you was a mistake.

Number Three: When you ask questions be considerate and come from a place of loving.  Do your research.  There are some really great groups that you can join as an Ally that will help you deal with number two and become educated.  I became a member of PFLAG (Parents and Family/Friends of Lesbians and Gays).  There I learned language and culture and all kinds of things that make me a well-rounded human.  Here, at TJSL you can become a member of OUTLaw.

Whatever you do as an Ally, understand it can’t be wrong.  You are an Ally and the LGBT community needs Allies, just as much as the Allies need the LGBT community.

Fall 2013

On September 25, The Business Law Society together with the Intellectual Property Law Association brought 6 transactional attorneys together to share what is it that they do on a daily basis. According to Business Law Society President, Jeremy Elias (3L), this panel was very important because most students are not sure exactly it means to be a transactional attorney.  All of the panelists were candid with their answers and were excited to their share experiences with everyone.  The networking reception that followed allowed members to have more in depth conversations with our panelists, professors, and other students. There was an incredible turnout for both the panel and the networking reception and both organizations look forward to putting on future events.

Lawyers perform a variety of roles in a transactional context, including the following:

• advising on the laws applicable to the transaction and on the appropriate structure that should be adopted to manage and minimize the legal and commercial; risks involved; • drafting contracts and other documents; • helping clients with the commercial negotiations; and • helping clients with the management and execution (i.e. successful completion) of the transaction.

In addition to understanding the legal issues, transactional lawyers must develop the skills necessary to enable them to perform the above roles in an effective, efficient and ethical manner. They must also develop an awareness of the commercial context, including the client's commercial objectives, to ensure that the transaction works from both a legal and commercial perspective.

Vice President of IPLA, Stephanie Ferguson (3L) reflected on the event with the following:

So much of business today incorporates intellectual property.  There is a huge overlap between the two, and a majority of intellectual property law is transactional.  By putting together this panel, we were able to expose students to the various day-to-day lifestyles as a transactional attorney in addition to getting them up close and personal to these attorneys, many of whom are TJSL alums.  I really appreciate those who were able to attend and we have already received great feedback, from both panelists and attendees.

For BLS Vice President Alexander Green (3L), the panel offered a great opportunity to connect those who are commencing their law school careers with those who are established in carving out their own legal careers in the realm of Transactional Law: The Transactional Law Panel provided a great opportunity for the students involved--especially 1Ls--to get some context surrounding the way in which business transactions and corporate law can and do overlap, in practice and, hopefully, in the careers of many Business Law Society members. From there, the opportunity for students of various backgrounds and experience to interact and engage with some of Thomas Jefferson's most prominent alumni within the Southern California Business Law community was simply priceless. It's one thing to network for the sake of networking; it's another to network with a purpose, building foundational relationships with those who can and will have an impact in our careers, one way or another.

For BLS Member Shabnam Jafari (1L), this panel provided insight into how to get a oriented on a career in Transactional Law: The BLS Transactional Law Panel and networking reception was an enlightening and enjoyable experience! It was a wonderful opportunity to hear first-hand from attorneys about what they truly do on a day-to-day basis. Their refreshing candor about life in transactional law and advice on how I can start as a 1L to pursue a successful career in law was immensely valuable and encouraging. I sincerely look forward to the next BLS panel!

BLS Treasurer Conor Leedom (2L), summarized the impact of the event and its lasting effects for those in attendance:

At the Transactional Law Panel I learned a lot about legal careers that depart from the typical litigation based careers we all hear so much about in law school. It was also great to see and reconnect with TJSL alumni. It's inspiring to see the success and endeavors they've pursued since graduating.

Game 1: 11AM; Conditions: 82 °F. 100% chance of some good ol’ fashion football.

Torts Illustrated v. #StinkyPinkies

Final Score: 12-38

Both teams looked hydrated and well rested for the first game of Week 3. Torts Illustrated showed up with a strong running game and a few solid passes from the QB.  But the stinky stench of the #StinkyPinkies was a crowd favorite under the leadership of Dr. Sir Mr. Captain Tim Seeger, MD, TD, Esq., MBA-concentration in touchdowns, Ph.TDEE.  The momentum moved in the favor of the #StinkyPinkies after gaining possession on a fumbly interception on a deep bomb which covered the length of the field.  Again Mr. TD (HANSSSS) himself showed up to score a record breaking 4 touchdowns with his sprite like grace landing ever so softly in the endzone. #VinoBlanco.

When asked to comment about how the game went Torts Illustrated said “I did not know they sold so many pink things for guys” and “the game plan really fell through today.” I am sure they missed their Captain Diego from a bad sprained ankle last week.  Hopefully they will have him supporting from the sidelines for the final round of play before playoffs.

Game 2: 12PM; Conditions: warmer than the full rack, half rack, baby backs

Trespassory Taking v. 36-Rack

Final Score: 28 – 8

36-Rack came out with a vengeance and an actual 36 rack to sustain them through the game. The game started with both teams looking pretty even but Trespassory Taking began having their way with the opponent after jumping to an early lead with Kissey Face #9 looking like Miley Cyrus’s new video “Wrecking Ball” tearing down the field for a massive gain in yards.

36-Rack must have given it their all in the first half scoring their only touchdown followed by a 2 point conversion. When asked about how the game went they responded that “they must go back to the tapes.” Maybe they have already forgotten what happened out there and need a refresher and a refreshment to help ease the pain.

When asked about the game, Trespassory Taking were so “taken away by their first win and for their great teammates.” They also exclaimed that it was the “Highlight of their week!”

Game 3: 1PM; Conditions: It’s hot with a growing breeze from the SSW.  Keanu Reeves.

TJSL Stallions v. Professor Sacks

Final Score: 27 – 26

In the closest and most heated game of the day the winning play came down to the ticking seconds of the game clock.  Professor Sacks started the game with deep bomb for their first play that resulted in a touchdown which alerted the Stallions that they would have to bring their A game.

Bobby GT would like to thank his fans for the vote of Sexiest TJ student this year and also thank them for supporting him through his sprained ankle which although injured still managed to get him some interceptions on the books.  Meanwhile Danny’s ability to multitask allowed him to take some time during the huddles to hit on some honey’s on the sidelines while also putting in some camera time to get the media pumped up.  When asked about the media time Danny commented “ That’s what I Do!”  Nima absent from last week’s loss had a strong return to the IM Football season with a touchdown and amazing defense.

This game ended with the Stallions up just 1 point and Professor Sacks unable to get the 2 point conversion.

Game 4: 2PM; Conditions: Still hot with light rhythmic gyrations from the north. Winter is coming.

Yellow Snow v. Malicious Torts

Final Score: 7 – 12

The first half was uneventful as the team’s pitter-pattered back and forth down the field for a scoreless first half.  During half time the teams decided that they were really going to get in the endzone this half, and that is exactly what they did!

Yellow Snow came out with a heavy run to catch a deep ball in the endzone for their one and only touchdown of the game.  Malicious Torts came out in the second half with a fury with 2 picks in the endzone and a pick 6! They then got a touchdown with a sweet diving catch by a Malicious Tort who is probably taking home a nice raspberry to remember their win!

Game 5: 3PM; Conditions: Windy and full of hot air...weather is being mysterious.

4L’s Do It Longer v. Statue of Frauds

Final Score: 6 – 20

4L’s again decided not to comment but the media would like to give them some props on their SICK uniforms! If nothing else, at least they look good out on the field each week.

The mystery team of Statue of Frauds came out hard this week again with a full 7 players to clinch the victory.  To sum it up they had 3 picks and an awesome catch by one of the girls for a great touchdown.

There was ton of defense from everyone especially from the newly returned vet of IM football Pete.  I am sure the Statute of Frauds are hopefully he does not go back into retirement for next week’s game.

Game 6: 4PM; Conditions: Still congressing....

The HUGE Winners v. Distant Relatives

Final Score: 32 - 35

This game reminded me of a children’s seesaw, as no team really ever had the upper hand but continuously went back and forth until the end. Distant Relatives took a commanding lead in the second half pushing the score to 35-25 with their not-so-secret weapon; a 6’6 receiver who was impossible to defend in the endzone.  When The HUGE Winners tried to even the score they fell short by only reaching 32 with the seconds running out. It was quoted as a “Great Game with Great Sportsmanship”

Game 1: 11am Conditions: Clear and smooth like the hair of the dog.

The HUGE Winners v. Cal West #4

Final Score: 41-0

The HUGE Winners displayed their girthiness once again with a dominating display of football prowess.  The HUGE Winners came out of the gate swinging and scored two TDs on their first two possessions.  Cal West #4 made a valiant effort and it looked like their luck was about to change when they subbed in a girl QB who had the highest QB rating of the game.  Despite throwing two interceptions, she played like a true champ.  The HUGE Winners ultimately came out victorious with their five interceptions and four stops on the red zone.  The game truly was a spectacular exhibit of sportsmanship and defensive superiority. Game 2: 12PM; Conditions: The heat is on...chance of sun

Professor Sacks v. 4L’s Do It Longer Final Score: 33-7 Professor Sacks seemed geared up in their best TWEED jackets and ready to teach for this one.  Giving the fans a taste of what the weather had in store for the rest of the day, Professor Sacks started hot with an opening drive, turn, shuffle, paddy-cake, and skip to a short drive for a TTTOOOUUUCCCCHHHHDDDDOOOWWWWNNNNN on the first play of the game.  4L’s Do It Longer seemed in the zone and ready to play but Professor Sacks lesson plan was too much for them to handle.  After returning to the second half down 20-0, Professor Sacks strong defense made it difficult for 4L’s Do It Longer to put up the necessary points.

Game 3: 1pm; Conditions: calm, sunny, and hot.  The air is full of stinky.   Cal West #1 v. #StinkyPinkies Final Score: 14-14 Well this game was like the porta-potty in the Clairemont parking lot...a mess.  Cal West #1 and #StinkyPinkies struggled the 1st half to make anything happen.  Balls dropped all over the place.  When asked about the balls dropping, Justin Bieber declined to respond.  Cal West #1 ended the first half with a 2-0 lead from a mis-handled snap.  Both teams seemed to wake up for the second half and display a glimmer of talent.  Cal West #1 and #StinkyPinkies went tit for tat with each team putting up 2 touchdowns to end the game.  The #StinkyPinkies put Cal West #1 on the edge of their seats with a truly pink hail mary in the final seconds of the game.  But in this arena, on this day, both teams came out exactly the same...tied.

Game 4: 2 PM; Conditions: Hungry for Pop Torts... Malicious Tortfeasors v. Torts Illustrated Final Score: 24-8 Torts Illustrated played a great game led by their QB and cookie monster.  QB Blake held his own and threw some great passes for a fine overall performance.  Cookie monster was all over the field pulling flags like the cookie monster slamming home Mrs. Field’s Chocolate Chips.  Diego gave the fans a scare with his sprained ankle but gave Torts Illustrated hope when he returned to the field.  Despite their solid performance, Malicious Tortfeasors came out like the perfect cup of coffee...strong, black, and exerting pressure.  Game 5: 3 PM; Conditions: Sunny with a gentle breeze.  Still hot but so gentle. TJSL Stallions v. Statute of Frauds Final Score: 12-19 Upset was in the air for this game as the reigning TJSL IM Football Champions struggled to get going on offense and defense.  Initially hesitant about playing the whole game, TJSL Stallions’ girls played great despite the loss.  Their performance made for a solid argument that a more fitting name for the TJSL Stallions on this day was the TJSL Mares.  When questioned about the game, the TJSL Stallions replied that “penalties killed us” and “don’t be hungover.”  Playing with only six players, the Statute of Frauds held their own and put up the points to earn the win.  The girls stripped flags left and right and the team played with a strong sense of determination and unity.  The Statute of Frauds mentioned that “they played awesome with a player down” and “running the clock down on offense helped quite a bit.”

Game 6: 4PM; Conditions: Winds are SSW-SW 4-9kts and it continues to be hot like a distant cousin Distant Relatives v. Trespassory Taking Final Score: 20-12 This game looked like a good one as the Distant Relatives took on the Trespassory Taking.  Trespassory Taking looked like the team to beat with their snazy nicknames and purple shirts.  A challenge the Distant Relatives were happy to take on with a smile.  Two minutes into the game, Trespassory Taking let fly a frozen rope that resulted in the catch of the day.  One fan on the sideline yelled “that was beautiful”.  Later on Trespassory Taking unleashed their enforcer who delivered a hockey check to one of the Distant Relatives that made the arena cringe.  But the Distant Relatives were as cool as ever and kept delivering the plays needed to take the win.  When asked to comment, the Distant Relatives made clear that it was “a team effort, they are playing beyond their expectations, and they have the best girls in the league...again!”

Game 1: 11am Conditions: Sunny with a side of Hungover:

- The Huge Winners v. Cal West #3

o Final Score: 12-6

The excitement of the 2013 IM Football season began with a HUGE BANG when

the Huge Winners made some halftime adjustments to their game.  The result: clean

penetration of the endzone to end a scoring draught and break the tie.  The long scoring

draught made Cal West # 3’s 6 points seem small and impotent compared to the 12 points

put up by The Huge Winners.  Although Cal West #3 held their heads up high after the

devastating loss, they know it’s a numbers game and anything could happen next week

if they just be themselves and have the courage to put their-selves out there.  There is

no doubt they will show up next week to play an athletic event instead of discussing the

legal implications of their player waivers.

Game 2: 12PM; Conditions: Getting Hotter with a little breeze of booze:

- #StinkyPinkies v. Malicious Tortfeasors

o Final Score: 32-12

The #StinkyPinkies came out of the gate ready to play and extra pink.  Exerting pressure

early, The pinkies exerted their stinky-ness early and often as they were led by Tim “my

fault” Seeger at QB who even completed a couple of passes to the Malicious Tortfeasors

to get them involved.  Dan “Hands”son lived up to his name as he led the Pinkies with

two touchdowns on only 5 plays. The girls were as always on fire with Sammie “the

endzone queen” Eyde with the first touchdown.

The Malicious Tortfeasors declined to comment for the after game notes, possible.

Maybe next week they will prevail and be more affable towards the media.

Game 3: 1pm; Conditions: Hot with a chance of fun

- Torts Illustrated v. Cal West #1

o Final Score: 26-2

Torts Illustrated commented to the press that “their game plan really came together”

for the first week of play. While no one on the team actually knows their game plan, it

seemed to be working for the first game with a dominating win over Cal West #1.

Cal West #1 commented for the record that their goal for next week is to “SCORE A

TOUCHDOWN”.  Cal West also wanted to throw out a thank you to the refs for their

patience with learning the new rules and understanding that it was football and not

choreographed line dancing that they were competing in.

Game 4: 2 PM; Conditions: Ocean breeze with a hint of Limearitas

- Professor Sacks v. Statue of Frauds

o Final Score: 20-8

With the first win for Cal West’s team Professor Sacks in the league they declared with

glee that Girl plays are sexy! The comments from Statue of Frauds team although well

prepared just could not catch a break with the sun being in their eyes and trying out a new

“Statue of Liberty Play” that just happened to back fire and create a touchdown for the

other team. Maybe next week it will all come together!

Game 5: 3 PM; Conditions: Hotter than Ryan Gosling in his Underwear

- TJSL Stallions v. 4L’s Do it Longer

o Final Score: 33-13

As the reigning champs jogged onto the field, it was noticeable that they had been

training in the off-season with lots of GTL’ing. They came out to an early lead but were

caught up with their QB throwing 2 interceptions that helped the other team put up 2

touchdowns.

Danny so coyly told the press that the win was because of his effort of coming out strong

and that they all played hard as a team, while all of his teammates including Babak were

wondering where their hard efforts of interceptions and touchdowns came into the game.

4L’s Do it Longer sure knew what they need to work on when the captain says that

their offseason was difficult and today’s game was a lot of hard work, but maybe the

cohesiveness for next game will be there.  It appears if the 4L’s don’t get it together soon

they may be looking at the scoreboard longer in disbelief.

Game 6: 4PM; Conditions: Smooth Breeze on your Cleats

- Distant Relatives v. Cal West #4

o Final Score: 26-6

For the final game of the day, Distant Relatives came out strong with a comment of “well

we did have a great draft, picking up Cliffton Clark in the 3rd round of maybe probable season, and that the rookies all did excellent.” Good motivation for next week is to know the confusing difference between the ref’s whistle blowing and the ball being hiked from the center.

They also claim that they have the “best girls in the league.” Challengers accepted to best their girls for next week!

Cal West #4, dressed in seasonal orange, was too upset that they did not bring a 36-rack to focus on the game.  Cal West #4’s players are reevaluating their priorities this week and such all players have been listed as “questionable…for touchdowns” for next week’s game.
