San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis

San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, a 1976 graduate, plans to run for San Diego mayor next year. Dumanis, a former Superior Court judge, is in her third term as district attorney.

Jon Epsten '82 recevies award from Professor Golden.

Jon Epsten '82 received the A. Thomas Golden Alumnus of the Year Award at the 2011 Barristers Ball. Honorees are selected based on Professional Achievement, Dedication to TJSL and Community involvement. 

Jon is the founding shareholder of the law firm of Epsten Grinnell & Howell, APC. One of his many volunteer activities is as an MCLE presenter at TJSL where he is also a financial supporter.

Erik Feingold '93

Erik Feingold '93 is a litigation partner with the Law Offices of Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Schneider, LLP in Ventura (the second oldest law firm in the City of Ventura). He recently obtained the largest verdict in Ventura County history, $39M, on behalf of an injured CHP officer.

Randy C. Frisch has been named the new president and publisher of the San Diego Business Journal.

Frisch served as vice president of operations and information technology for The San Diego Union-Tribune from 2006 to 2009. He was chief financial officer for the Union-Tribune from 2003 to 2006.

“It is an honor to be selected to lead the San Diego Business Journal, the best record of local business in America’s finest city,” Frisch said. “I have been a reader and admirer of the Business Journal for years, like most of the city’s business executives. I look forward to continuing and improving the report we deliver each week to anyone and everyone who cares about business in San Diego.”

TJSL Alumna Anna Romanskaya ’07 has been sworn-in as the new president of the San Diego County Bar Association’s New Lawyer Division. Eric Ganci ’08 is also a new NLD director.

"I am very excited about the NLD presidency and I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead,” said Romanskaya. “This year, our focus will be on providing programming and services to our membership that will provide them the ability to become more directly and personally involved. You can look forward to relevant and informative monthly Continuing Legal Education seminars, interactive networking events, exciting Signature Events in the spring and the fall, and supportive mentoring programs. You can also expect to see a year long public service initiative as well as informative and relevant articles in our monthly publication, For the Record. Along with our popular events, you will also see new collaborations with standing SDCBA sections as well as several new programming surprises. Overall, 2011 plans to be an engaging and productive year and I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming events."

"The NLD Board is full of quality attorneys, truly invested in giving back to San Diego by way of CLE’s, events, publications, and everything in between," said Ganci. "It’s an honor to serve with this fantastic team!”

The ceremony was held on Friday, December 3, at the bar association’s offices and the oath was administered by Judge Maureen Hallahan.

According to the SDCBA’s website, “The NLD…which is made up of bar association members who have been in practice for fewer than seven years…helps bridge the gap between law school and real world legal practice by hosting events geared towards the needs and interests of new lawyers, in the areas of: continuing legal education, networking, mentoring, civility and community service.”

Earl B. Gilliam

Valoree Wortham ’93 is the new president of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association.

The association is named in honor of the former TJSL adjunct professor who became the first African-American Superior Court judge in San Diego, as well as being the first African-American United States district judge in San Diego.

Doc Anderson, a 1993 TJSL graduate, was president in 2009.

All alumni of Thomas Jefferson School of Law and Western State University San Diego are members of the Association and are eligible to participate. The Alumni Association does not charge dues. Terms are for one year beginning January 2011.

Mission of the Alumni Association

The mission of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association is to promote and foster a mutually beneficial relationship between Thomas Jefferson School of Law and all of its alumni. The Association is dedicated to serving alumni by providing social, educational and professional opportunities. The Association is dedicated to supporting the law school's educational mission.

Board of Directors Roles and Responsibilities

• Attend monthly board meetings—the fourth Wednesday of each month (Members outside of San Diego County may participate via telephone, quarterly.) • Serve on at least one committee • Adhere to the bylaws of the Association • Actively promote alumni engagement • Actively promote financial support for TJSL • Personally give an annual gift to the school

Make-up of the Board

• Maximum number of directors is 25 (includes past president, who is automatically a member) • Members of the Executive Committee shall include: 1) President (must have served on the board the prior year); 2) Vice-Presidents (2 positions); and 3) Secretary. These officers will be selected by the directors at the first meeting of the board • There shall be one seat for a member practicing or residing outside of California and one seat for a member practicing or residing in California but outside the County of San Diego • Two seats shall be occupied by graduates prior to 1980 • Two seats shall be occupied by graduates within the last five years

*Note: If there are no members who fit these qualifications, members-at-large may be elected or appointed to fill these positions.

• It is perfectly acceptable to nominate yourself • Submit a brief statement of why you wish to serve on the board—50 word limit • Submit a completed nomination form - Must Be Received by November 30, 2010 • In addition to the nomination form and statement, you may also email a head shot (jpg format) and a resume
