Legal English Writing and Research
This course provides an overview to the role of legal writing in the American legal system. It will also provide an introduction to the function and sources of American common law, the American legal system, and legal practice. Students will learn the basic structure of American legal writing and analysis called IRAC, and will utilize this structure to write short legal writing exercises. The course will also provide an overview to the types of legal writing used in American legal practice including office memoranda, client letters, opinion letters, persuasive motions, and appellate briefs. The course may also include guest speakers from the local legal community related to the role of legal writing in American law practice. Introduction to US Legal System
This course presents a concise overview of legal methodology, the adversary system, the judicial system, and procedures of the American legal system as an introduction to the study of law in the United States by lawyers from other countries.
